VICTORIA and DISTRICT 100 profiling with elegance the Walls of Salé, Morocco

Recent months have witnessed some landscape improvement works on the Walls of Salé in Morocco.

Renovation work on the walls of the old Medina of Salé forms part of a restoration and development programme for the space that began in 2019. The programme seeks to rejuvenate the city’s urban fabric and promote its historic and architectural heritage.Dating back to the 12th century, the walls once encircled and protected the Medina. They are approximately 5 kilometres long and their height varies from 8 to 10 metres. Made from stone and adobe, they are adorned with defensive towers and open at strategic points into historic gateways.

The team of lighting designers selected the VICTORIA and DISTRICT 100 luminaires from ROVASI to light this emblematic structure.

VICTORIA are buried uplights. Their robust extruded aluminium body and 10 mm glass provide IP67 ingress protection and IK10 impact resistance. The luminaires can be found along the entire length of the walls, highlighting and embellishing them at night.

DISTRICT 100 are linear recessed luminaires with length from 169mm to 2830mm. They are made from extruded aluminum, featuring a 4 mm polycarbonate protective diffuser. They offer IP66 ingress protection and IK10 impact resistance. They have been placed between the merlons to give these features added depth and relevance.
